5th Grade Band

ALL BAND STUDENTS SHOULD PRACTICE 20 MINUTES EACH DAY!

The 5th grade band will rehearse every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00 - 2:30 PM during their scheduled study hall.

Students will have group lessons by instrumentation in 5th grade. The students will have lessons once a week during a scheduled class time that is agreed on by the students teacher. During lessons, the students will work on band literature, solos and small ensembles.

Students DO NOT receive a grade for band.

What does Mrs. Tessereau look for on playing tests?

- correct fingerings/slide positions
- steady tempo!!!
- correct counting
- correct articulations (slurs, tonguing, staccatos)
- playing the written dynamics (f=loud, p=soft, crescendos and decreascendos)

Please make sure your band student has their music, in inserts, in a 3-ring binder, and is taking them home to practice.

Until Book 1 is completed, 5th-grade band students will receive small group lessons from Mrs. Tessereau. As students finish Book 1, they will become part of the band, and will attend sectionals instead of small group lessons.
