 5th Grade Band
GROUP LESSONS FOR STUDENTS THAT HAVE NOT COMPLETED ED SUETA BOOK 1
Students will meet once a week for group lessons. Band students that have not completed book 1 will be assigned to a lesson with other students who have not completed book 1.  Students will not be pulled out of reading classes and will be assigned a time at their homeroom teachers' discretion.  Once those students have completed these requirements, they will be assigned to a new lesson time and should begin attending 5th Grade Band rehearsals on Monday and Wednesday.  Students will not become a member of the 5th grade band until book 1 has been completed.

GROUP LESSONS FOR STUDENTS THAT HAVE COMPLETED ED SUETA BOOK 1
Students will meet once a week for group lessons.  Band students that have completed book 1 will be assigned to a lesson with "like" instruments.  For example, if your student plays the trumpet, he/she will be assigned to a lesson with all trumpets.  Students will not be pulled from reading classes and will be assigned a lesson time at their homeroom teachers' discretion.  During lessons, students will work on band literature, solos, or small ensembles.

5TH GRADE BAND
The 5th grade band will rehearse every Monday and Wednesday from 2:00 - 2:30 PM during their scheduled study hall.

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR 5TH GRADE BAND
All 5th grade band students will need to bring the following materials for each lesson and rehearsal.

- pencil or pen should be kept in the band binder at ALL times (colored pencils and pens work best)-
- 3 ring binder with at least one pocket
- a few sheets of loose leaf paper (in binder)
- 10 plastic inserts (Students will put the band music inside plastic inserts.  Not all of the music will be    hole punched.)

Students DO NOT receive a grade for band!

PLAYING TESTS
What does Mrs. Tessereau look for on playing tests?

- correct fingerings/slide positions
- steady tempo!!!
- correct counting
- correct articulations (slurs, tonguing, staccatos)
- playing the written dynamics (f=loud, p=soft, crescendos and decreascendos)

Please make sure your band student has their music, in inserts, in a 3-ring binder, and is taking them home to practice.
